Supporting Student Mental Health

Writer: Nataya MickensNataya Mickens

In schools of today, improving students' mental health is important.   Stress and anxiety are common among students and could affect their ability to learn. Instructors can support students by providing a friendly and safe environment in the classroom where they feel comfortable discussing their feelings.   Using mindful practices, such as breathing exercises or quick meditation sessions, is one quick way to do this. Students who participate in these activities are able to relax and concentrate more throughout class. Having a strong relationship with students is also important.   Weekly check-ins enable teachers to identify students who might want more support. Students who are having mental health problems may benefit  from working with school counselors because they can offer valuable resources. Students must be taught about mental health in order for them to comprehend what it means.   Check out this useful website for additional suggestions on how to promote the mental health of students.
